Wolverhampton-headquartered Angel Springs, one of the UK’s leading water cooler service providers, has invested in a new fleet of 44 eco-friendly and fuel efficient vehicles to meet increasing customer demand after a series of new business wins.

The company has taken delivery of 26 new Renault vans as well as 18 Isuzu trucks, which will be used by Angel Springs’ team of 71 drivers to service and deliver to around 49,000 water coolers.

The fleet expansion will further enhance Angel Springs’ existing service and delivery model, which operates on a local level from nine depots throughout the UK, including Wolverhampton, Fillongley, Gloucester, Halifax, Chiltern, Poole, Marden, Seaham and Glasgow.

The larger fleet will give Angel Springs further head room to respond quickly and efficiently to new customer orders and maintenance demands, whilst maintaining the businesses reliable delivery of around 5000 bottles every day across the UK, which equates to around 100,000 litres of water.

The new eye catching fleet has been redesigned with a bright cerise front to ensure that the vans and trucks stand out against their competitors and to drive instant recognition of the Angel Springs brand. All of the new vehicles are equipped with the latest automotive technology, meaning that they not only consume less fuel but that they also produce far less exhaust gas emissions.

The company has a growing network of around 30,000 customers situated across the UK ranging from SMEs to multi-site blue chip organisations, including the BBC, Argos, Phones 4U and Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. So far in 2012, Angel Springs has secured new business wins with Marriott Hotels, Liberty Guard and Securitas.

Commenting on the investment, John Murphy, Commercial Director at Angel Springs said:

“We pride ourselves on delivering a truly local service on a national basis, which helps to ensure that our customers receive a consistently high standard of delivery, reliability and attention. By expanding our total fleet to 71 vehicles, we are not only increasing the efficiency and productivity of our existing service model, but we are also enhancing our green credentials by effectively reducing the overall mileage covered by our trucks and vans for each bottle that we deliver.

“2012 has brought further growth and new customers to our business and as such, our new fleet will play an important role in keeping our expanding customer base well hydrated.”

For many people, water taken directly from the tap can seem less appealing or tasty than water from a bottled source. This is because water quality from the mains is variable across the country and is affected by a vast range of factors.

Principal among these factors is the level of local water hardness or softness, and the processing techniques of the water utility companies responsible for delivering drinking water for a given region. All must comply with strict regulatory processing procedures, yet each will have a slightly different approach to treatment.

As a result, plain mains water differs vastly from place to place. And people opt for expensive bottled water as an alternative.

There is one way, however, in which to guarantee deliciously fresh- tasting water straight from the tap – no matter where you are in the country, who supplies your water, or how they treat it.

A mains-fed water cooler plugs directly into the mains water supply, ensuring your normal tap water is transformed – chilled and filtered so that it tastes both pure and cool.

This is a highly cost effective way in which to make the most of mains tap water and provide high volumes of drinking water for office workers. Alternatively, some businesses may prefer to look at stand-alone water coolers. These bottled water coolers use spring or mineral water and are housed in a refrigerated unit, without the need for a mains water connection.

At Angel Springs, we use natural spring water from local sources, delivered through our national distribution network, to minimise transport mileage and lessen the environmental impact.

Once you have the right water solution in place in the office, your staff should really start to notice a difference in terms of the quality, taste and volume of water they’re encouraged to drink. This is important; a regular intake of water has been proven to improve focus and concentration.

We should all, ideally, drink around eight glasses throughout the day, whether cold and filtered or heated using an eco-boiler.

In warm weather, convention has it that a chilled drink is the best way to keep cool. However, for those who love their cups of tea, the good news is that water is healthy, regardless of its temperature.

Many of us can hardly bear to be parted from our hot drinks, even in the midst of summer. Happily, there are plenty of options for enjoying the best of both worlds. For example, rather than having heavy cups of black tea with milk and sugar, why not switch to light and calorie-free herbal teas? In addition to being easy on the palette, they offer a number of health benefits.

In the field of alternative and naturopathic health, chamomile tea is said to have natural calming and relaxing effects. Green tea has been scientifically proven to be beneficial to the metabolism and provides healthy antioxidants. White tea packs an even more powerful punch. Both green and white tea have a lovely light flavour, created using the unfermented leaves of their black tea relation.

Try chai teas for rich flavours or cinnamon and ginger tea for their metabolic properties. Mint tea is good for improving digestion and freshening the breath, while nettle tea is said to be beneficial in purifying the blood and providing valuable iron content.

For office workers, there are a number of ways in which you can provide staff with regular supplies of both hot and cold water. Mains fed water coolers are a good option for high volume requirements. Mains fed water coolers simply plug directly into the mains water supply, chilling and filtering the water so that it tastes both pure and cool.

A range of eco boilers is available to rapidly heat water for hot drinks with those all-essential ‘green’ credentials. The latest models are designed to save on energy costs and carbon emissions whilst offering staff hot water on-demand.

Everywhere you turn, it seems that footballers and other sportspeople are drinking bottled water – but why is this? Most of us are aware that water is essential to hydration and overall health. Even sedentary types need around eight glasses of fresh water a day to stay healthy and maintain optimum hydration throughout the day. Sports people need much more.

When you’re playing football, or working out, your body sweats, losing water and essential salts. These need replenishing; otherwise the body quickly becomes fatigued and loses the ability to stay energised and to repair itself. This isn’t surprising when you consider that our bodies are composed largely of water.

So regular water intake, whether from bottled spring or mineral water, or water coolers at half time, allows footballers to maintain their game and perform to their best ability. This is just one reason why Angel Springs is providing bottled water for the English Premier League’s Wolverhampton Wanderers FC this year.

So when you’re watching Euro 2012, be prepared to see lots of water-sipping occurring at half time. Sports people tend to prefer bottles with “sports caps” – designed to prevent them from swallowing air and becoming bloated. A modest, regular intake of water in the form of a “top-up” is better for health than overloading the body with a single, large influx.

So, if your office is lucky enough to be watching the football this year, take a leaf from the professionals’ books and maintain your water intake throughout the day. Cold water from water coolers can be served with a slice of lemon for extra “zing” and a water boiler is a kitchen essential for making healthy herbal teas. Whether your preference is cold or hot tipples, keep that water flowing and your health at its peak.

Many people are surprised to learn that our brains are actually 85% water. Once you’ve absorbed this fascinating statistic, the importance of regular water intake for our health and wellbeing quickly becomes evident.

Water is already known to keep the body healthy, detoxify skin, aid liver function and help to regulate body heat and internal chemical balance. But it also aids a healthy mind.

The easiest way in which to visualise this impact, is to imagine the effects of dehydration. As anyone who has had a heavy night out on the town, or a morning drinking espresso will know, the effects of dehydration are wide ranging.

These include reduced concentration and focus, irritability, headaches and a generally feeling of being ‘under par’. In fact, for those of us who enjoy the odd alcoholic beverage, that horrible ‘next morning’ headache is largely down to the effects on your brain as its tissues dehydrate. Next time, consider drinking a pint of water before bed and switch to drinks with mixers!

Regular water intake helps to keep us sharp, focused and energised. Fresh clean water keeps the eyes sparkling and lubricated, the internal organs flushed and is involved in almost every micro-function that your body performs.

Aim to drink around eight glasses of water at regular periods throughout the day. Try filling up a 1.5 litre bottle from a water cooler, pop in a slice of lemon and take regular sips. If you enjoy warm drinks, avoid caffeine and make the most of office hot water dispensers. You can make healthy herbal teas such as chamomile, green tea, dandelion and fennel, all of which offer additional natural benefits.

Over time, you’ll be amazed at how healthy you feel as a result of extra water intake. You may find that you’re eating less because dehydration is often mistaken for hunger. Dropping a surprise pound or two could well be an unforeseen benefit from your new healthy water regime.

In the bottled water versus energy drinks debate, it helps to look at the facts.

Energy drinks are often promoted with substantial marketing campaigns. It’s no coincidence that many of the major brands are owned by carbonated drinks conglomerates, which see the vast revenue potential of energy drinks, amidst their family of brands.

Today’s energy drinks may feature pictures of athletes and top sports people, but the labels are worth carefully scrutinising. In many cases, they will contain sugar and additives, far more so than the beneficial ingredients they include such as vitamins, herbal extracts or minerals. They also tend to be rather pricey. After all, marketing campaigns need paying for.

In contrast, bottled water is simple, plain and unadulterated. Unlike sugary energy drinks, it doesn’t contain sugar, additives or calories. It provides exactly what your body needs: pure H2O. Bottled water dispensers filled with fresh spring or mineral water will provide natural minerals, but at levels that your body can use naturally.

Water is, moreover, far more cost effective. In contrast with branded energy drinks, you’re not required to pay for those television campaigns. Office water coolers are a contributor to maintaining morale, well-being and overall health in the office.

There are a range of different types now available. Mains-fed coolers plug directly into the mains water supply, chilling and filtering the water so that it tastes cool and pure. Bottled water coolers are filled with chilled bottled spring water.

At Angel Springs we use a national distribution network. Our bottled coolers are filled with locally sourced spring water, for extra ‘green’ points and a lower carbon footprint. For those who prefer their water hot, we provide eco boilers for instant hot drink preparation. This saves on energy costs and minimises environmental impact.

These can be installed in communal areas such as kitchens, in addition to reception, break-out zones and natural gathering points. They’ll also be welcomed by visiting customers.

Water is essential to our health and everyday well-being. We all know the effects of dehydration far too well: a slight headache, lethargy and tiredness, a general feeling of sluggishness and even difficulty in concentrating.

Severe dehydration over time can exacerbate other issues including liver problems and a range of other maladies which can largely be avoided through good health practices and regular water intake.

However, simply drinking gallons of water in one sitting can be harmful. The important thing is to ensure that you have a regular intake of water over time. Ideally, the source should be fresh, filtered and at a pleasant water cooler temperature.

The ideal volume equates to around 1.5 litres, or eight cups a day. Remember, however, that if you’re working in a physical role, exercising, or it is particularly hot outside, you’ll need plenty more.

Most of us can easily determine whether we are drinking enough water, both by a sense of wellbeing and by checking the colour of our urine. If it’s a pale straw colour, you are adequately hydrated. If it appears dark, start drinking more water.

One interesting fact, of particular importance to dieters, is that drinking cooler water at icy temperatures actually speeds up the metabolism and encourages it to work harder in order to warm it to your body temperature.

Dehydration is often mistaken for hunger, so if you’re turning to that mid-morning biscuit, consider whether you simply need to top up on your water levels instead. Remember that caffeine, due to its diuretic properties, further dehydrates you – so avoid excessive coffee or strong tea consumption.

Opt instead for water, whether filtered from the mains or from a bottled water cooler system and enjoy it icy cold for that perfect clear, fresh taste. Alternatively, serve it with a slice of fresh lemon for a zesty twist, or experiment with herbal teas for added benefits.

One of the quickest ways to lose physical strength, power and vitality, is to become dehydrated. Our bodies are two-thirds water and, whilst we can survive for days without food, we can only survive for a short period of time without vital hydration.

Many of us are actually dehydrated on a day to day basis without realising it. Despite the health industry urging us to drink a minimum of eight glasses of water a day, we are still failing to stay adequately hydrated.

The results of this initially show in reduced energy levels, with a sluggish and tired feeling, headaches and physical signs such as dull-looking skin and skin blemishes. Water plays a vital regulating role in our body, transporting vital nutrients around our systems, balancing our body salts and detoxifying our organs, including the skin. This partly explains why those who drink regular amounts of bottled water or fresh water often have excellent skin.

For athletes, the need for water is overwhelming. Olympic athletes are rarely seen without a bottle of water. This is because high impact sports result in rapid dehydration as water evaporates via sweat and thermogenics and needs replacing.

Bottled water, or water from a water cooler, is clean, filtered and pure and often contains valuable mineral sources which help to balance the body’s complex chemical processes. It is also remarkably convenient and can be carried onto the track, field or kept by the edge of a swimming pool. Many people don’t realise that swimming dehydrates athletes in exactly the same way as land based activities.

So if you’re aiming to be healthy, strong and to embrace some of the positive lifestyle aspects of Olympic athletes, be sure to incorporate water into your regime. Together with exercise, good food, plenty of sleep and minimal stress, drinking more water could be one of the best health decisions you will ever make.

There’s nothing worse than feeling hot and sticky in summer and, conversely, nothing more satisfying than the taste of cold, fresh water on a warm day.

For staff working in stuffy offices, the need to stay adequately hydrated is imperative; without regular water, energy levels dip, lethargy sets in and low-level ailments such as headaches and irritation can kick in. With our bodies made up of around 70% water, it is hardly surprising that a regular supply of this life essential is so important.

Despite parts of the health industry trying to encourage all of us to drink at least eight glasses of fresh water a day, many of us are failing to do so. Some resort, instead, to sugary drinks which simply provide unnecessary calories and exacerbate certain health issues (some studies have suggested that carbonated drinks can have a detrimental effect on bone density over time). Others choose coffee, which acts as a diuretic and actually encourages the body to release more water.

While some ‘health drinks’ purport to offer additional ingredients and additives which may or may not be beneficial to health, the fact remains, that the cheapest, healthiest and tastiest way to stay hydrated, is to enjoy cold, fresh, honest water.

This doesn’t need to be expensive. Bottled water coolers are economic choices for offices, particularly in contrast with individual water bottle purchases. Our bottled water coolers also offer ‘green’ benefits. They are sourced from local spring suppliers and distributed via a national network to minimise travel miles and the associated carbon footprint.

Other solutions are available, such as mains fed water coolers, which plug directly into the mains water supply and chill and filter it so that it tastes as perfectly natural as fresh, clean water should. These are to be found dotted around canteens, office breakout areas, corridors and reception areas, ensuring that both staff and customers can benefit on a hot day.

When the weather heats up, so do your staff and the offices they work in! There is no faster way to lose productivity during the warmer months, than by failing to provide cool and readily-available supplies of fresh water for thirsty workers.

The fact is, by the time we experience thirst, we’re actually already at the point of dehydration. Reaching this stage starts to impact on concentration and the ability to focus. This causes issues for office based staff who need to remain immersed in their activities. The effect is exacerbated for active staff who have more physical roles, and the need for water becomes imperative as the temperature rises.

Failure to remain hydrated can lead to headaches, irritability and illnesses over time. In fact, the medical benefits of regular glasses of water are proven and have been recognised by the Government’s Health & Safety executive, which obligates employers to provide accessible water sources for workers within the premises.

To ensure your staff have the water they need, there are now a wide range of products available. Mains-fed water coolers plug directly into the mains water supply and filter and chill the water, to make sure it tastes as cool and pure as possible.

Alternatively, bottled spring water systems are available. A bottled water cooler uses chilled and bottled spring water, for the most natural source of valuable minerals and optimum hydration. At Angel Springs, we also use a national network of distributors to provide spring water sourced from natural, local sources; providing local and green benefits and minimising the carbon footprint associated with long-distance distribution.

So not only do your staff benefit from a refreshing bottled water cooler in the staff kitchen, corridor and communal areas, but you have the business satisfaction of knowing you’re providing locally sourced water. The benefits will become clear: your staff will remain hydrated, alert and will enjoy the taste of pure spring water too; an undeniably delicious taste, particularly when served chilled.
